Multi-Generational Workers & Creativity

Powerful Language of LeadersQuestion: How do you think millennials will influence creativity, language and innovation in the workplace?

The millennial generation is already influencing creativity in the workplace, especially in the uses of technology. On the one hand, it’s great to see the immediacy of creative solutions for connections and the access to information that is literally at our fingertips. On the other hand, I think creativity and innovation in the workplace is really going to be served by the conversation it opens up between and among the generations. Faster isn’t always better. Old work habits don’t necessarily work the best any more.

The creative challenge is how to integrate the frontier of this new generation while honoring the inheritance of the past. We stand on the shoulders of those who’ve come before us, for better or for worse. I think the best tact to take is to be curious—in our conversations, in our meetings, in our problem-solving and in the ways we will use our combined talents and wisdom to harvest the artistry in an organization.

There wasn’t enough time to answer all the great questions posed during my recent Netspeed Thought Leader webinar. Over the next few weeks I’ll be addressing them here, stay tuned!
